POPAI New Zealand Sustainability Committee

In March 2008 the POPAI New Zealand Sustainability Committee held workshop meetings in Auckland facilitated by Deloitte to outline the next steps for the initiative.

Committee members consistently identified four main activity areas in their discussion of the goals put forward at the workshops. The results identified the need to form teams around these groupings and use a coordinated approach across each of the four activity areas to implement POPAI’s sustainability goals.

The POPAI New Zealand Sustainability Committee has now been divided into two working groups in response to the report from Deloitte. Each has appointed a Group Team Leader and has begun working on a set of objectives/actions.

The Working Groups and Group Team Leaders are below:

Working Group Team Leader
Governance & Research Richard Manaton, Progressive Limited
Tool Development & Marketing Communications Rob Guild, Foodstuffs

The objectives of each Working Group are:

Governance & Research
  • provide overall coordination, encouragement and motivation
  • identify key objectives and timeframes for each project
  • provide a reference, a central point of contact for other groups
  • identify reliable sources of information, certification, international recognition
  • train members, managers, through networks
  • clearly define key concepts and standards of the day
  • identify best practices, and standards of the day

Tool development & Marketing Communications
  • provide end-users and suppliers with the right tools to implement POP designs and practices
  • “translate” information into simple, usable guidelines
  • investigate options for self assessment and self reporting
  • determine commercial implications
  • communicate back results of actions to governance
  • publicise results creating awareness
  • promote relevant initiatives
  • develop internal and external reporting systems
