POPAI LEADS THE WAY IN SUSTAINABILITY

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, POPAI Australia & New Zealand, has recently moved to an eco-efficient building to help reduce environmental impact and promote a green and sustainable future.
The state-of-the-art development based in Brookvale has a five-star Australian Building Greenhouse Rating (ABGR) featuring natural and cross flow ventilation, the largest water harvesting tank for any building of its type in the country, 286 kilolitres or five swimming pools of water storage in the basement, one of the largest amounts of PV solar panels and recycled timbers designed by Patio and Jamie Durie.
The building is leading the market in sustainability due to integrated design, operation, management and water efficiency and is one of the first work spaces in Australia to achieve a five-star ABGR.
POPAI Australia & New Zealand’s General Manager, Karen Spear, said sustainability and environmental issues are a key ongoing focus for the association this year.
“Sustainability is important because our future depends on it. We need to make smart and sound business decisions now in order to avoid limiting the choices and resources for generations to come,” Ms Spear.
To assist retail professionals identify key issues, adopt sustainable initiatives and apply best practice, POPAI will again stage the annual Future’s So Bright Green Sustainability Conference in June. Furthermore, POPAI is currently finalising the development of a tool for assessing sustainable design to be released later this year.
“Our aim has always been to identify successful and cost-effective sustainable practices within the retail marketing industry and provide industry decision-makers with insight and strategies to improve their sustainability and environmental performance,” Ms Spear said.
